Step-by-step: Kerala → Australia

The regional advantage most agents skip

Here is the single most useful strategic fact in this guide: Australia rewards students who study outside Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Cities that count as "regional" for migration purposes include Adelaide, Newcastle, Wollongong, Hobart, Townsville and Darwin — real cities with real universities:

• Lower tuition — regional universities cluster at the A$31,000–38,500 end.
• Lower living costs — rent in Newcastle or Hobart is far below Sydney.
• An extra 1–2 years of 485 post-study work rights for regional graduates — and the regional second-visa charge is far cheaper than the standard 485 fee.

Working while you study

The work cap (commonly summarised as 48 hours per fortnight during study periods, typically uncapped during scheduled breaks) makes a real dent in living costs.
